Kernel, Florist Gallery
2021
“ ‘Kernel’ is a grouping of paintings made over the past year or two, based on objects from around my home. The paintings depict trivial everyday things as a way of exploring topics beyond the initial subject matter, such as my experience of being pregnant, and the isolation and calmness of lockdowns. I’m interested in the human experience of feeling connected to inanimate objects, and how this relates to a modern experience of loneliness and alienation. Despite being focussed on hand-held physical objects, the paintings have a feeling of being extra-terrestrial, and have an uncanny sense that they are not quite of this world. ”
